Studio head Tim Gerritsen took to LinkedIn to report the news, writing: “It’s with great sadness that I have to report that the decision has been made to close Fantasy Flight Interactive next month. I’m proud of the team and the game we’ve dedicated ourselves to for the past few years. It’s been an amazing journey with even more amazing people.” You may know Fantasy Flight Games from their tabletop titles like Star Wars: Armada, or Twilight Imperium, but in 2017 the video game studio opened to create digital versions of their board and card games. We aren’t told why the studio have made the decision to close this year, but according to Gamasutra, layoffs have been taking place across various departments of Fantasy Flight Games. If you’re an avid player of The Lord Of The Rings: Adventure Card Game, don’t worry, a developer from parent company, Asmodee, confirmed in a post on Steam that they’ll continue to support the game’s servers after the studio’s closure. Asmodee will also continue with the planned release of the game’s Definitive Edition on consoles this year, which released on PC back in December. In an interview back in 2017, Matt Cox spoke to Gerritsen about the new digital studio that was excited to start “creating great game experiences”. Since then, Fantasy Flight Interactive released their first and only game, The Lord Of The Rings: Adventure Card Game back in August last year. Matt Jarvis, the editor-in-chief of our corporate sibling Dicebreaker, considers it to be one of the best board games on PC.
